Tender chicken pieces marinated in tangy buttermilk, coated in a seasoned flour mixture, and fried to golden, crispy perfection—then drizzled with a sweet and spicy hot honey glaze for an irresistible kick. This crave-worthy twist on a classic comfort dish pairs perfectly with homemade mac and cheese and your favorite dipping sauces.
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
In a small bowl, combine the following ingredients to make the spice blend: garlic powder, paprika, chili powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Halve the spice blend and set aside for Steps 2 and 3.
STEP 2
In a large bowl, mix together the buttermilk and half of the spice blend. Add the chicken tenders to the buttermilk mixture, tossing evenly to coat the pieces. Cover with foil and set aside for 30+ minutes in the refrigerator.
STEP 3
In a medium bowl or shallow dish, combine the following dry ingredients to create the flour and seasoning dredge: flour, cornstarch, and remaining half of the spice blend.
STEP 4
Remove each chicken piece from the buttermilk mixture and dredge in the flour and seasoning mix - pressing down so the crumbs evenly coat all sides of the chicken. Let dredged chicken stand for 15-20 minutes before deep frying.
STEP 5
Fry the chicken pieces in 350°F oil until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes per side), adding one piece at at time to the oil and flipping the chicken halfway. Remove from oil and double fry the chicken, if desired, for a crispier finish. Set finished pieces on a wire rack.
STEP 6
While the chicken is frying, heat the hot sauce and hot honey in a small pan.
