This easy homemade artisan bread has a crisp, golden crust and soft, airy interior—no kneading required. Just mix, let it rest overnight, and bake in a Dutch oven for bakery-quality bread at home.
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and yeast. Pour in the warm water and stir until a sticky dough forms.
STEP 2
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel. Let the dough rest at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours.
STEP 3
When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place a Dutch oven with the lid on inside the oven while it preheats.
STEP 4
Lightly flour a surface and your hands. Turn the dough out onto the floured surface and gently shape it into a ball. Don’t overwork it - just enough to form a round shape.
STEP 5
Place the dough onto a piece of parchment paper. Score the top with a sharp knife or bread lame to help control the rise.
STEP 6
Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven, place the parchment and dough inside, and cover with the lid.
STEP 7
Bake for 30 minutes with the lid on. Then, remove the lid and bake for an additional 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
STEP 8
Remove the bread from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15–20 minutes before slicing.
